“It’s all wretch and no vomit.” – Alan Watts
Some of the highlights include the following quotes (in case you are too lazy to watch it).

“What would you like to do if money wer no object?”
“If you say money is the most important thing you will spend your life completely wasting your time. You will be doing things you don’t like doing only to go on living which is doing things you don’t like doing- which is stupid!”
“Better to have a short life filled with things you like doing, than a long life being miserable.”
“It’s all wretch and no Vomit.”
“THEREFORE, IT’S SO IMPORTANT TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION, WHAT DO I DESIRE?”

I have that last quote from Watts in all caps, because I believe we in today’s society do not quite understand the question. He is not asking, “what makes you feel good?” He’s also not asking, “what is your favorite job?” Watts is asking us to put all cultural norms and expectations to the side, and honestly search your own soul to ask yourself, “what do I believe is important; not just important, but most important for me to do with my life?” Now, I want you reader to know that I do not endorse most of Watts’ work, but I do applaud this video, because he is not sticking to the expectations of life in America. He is begging, as I am, for people to contemplate the direction of their lives and to live for something which has purpose. Do not find your identity in an expectation, but find your identity in the deepest most desires of your entire being. The Bible addresses this issue in the “Sermon on the Mount.”
